Adopting A Pet

In just 4 simple steps, you can give a deserving animal a home, set an example for your community, and make a difference.

Step 1 | Meet Available Animals

  • Visit Gladwin County Animal Shelter during business hours or make an appointment to meet available animals.

    • Adoptions can only be completed in person and require you to meet your potential pet prior to completing the adoption process.

    • Potential adopters should be prepared to spend some time with the animal(s) they are interested in prior to selecting their next forever pet.

    • If a Meet & Greet between your current pets and the available animal is needed, that can be arranged.

Step 2 | Complete Adoption Contract & Pet Ownership Education

  • After selecting your pet, adopters will need to complete the following in person at the shelter:

    • Adoption Contract

    • Spay/Neuter Information Review

    • Responsible Pet Ownership Information Review

    • Licensing Requirements

Step 3 | Pay & Donate

  • Complete payment via cash or check of required adoption fees.

    • Adoption Fee for Dogs $30

    • Adoption Fee for Cats $20

  • Consider making a donation to help other shelter animals find loving, forever homes. Donations can be made to support the Shelter’s operations, sponsor adoption fees, or contribute to a specific Shelter effort.

Step 4 | Get Support for a Successful Adoption

  • Sometimes the transition to a new home can be hard on a pet. Below are some informational links about transitioning pets into their new home/situations. If you need additional support after your adoption, don’t hesitate to contact us for more help.

  • If the adoption is not a good fit, adopters are asked to bring the animal back to the Shelter within 30 days. Gladwin County Animal Shelter is committed to positive outcomes for the animals in our care, and are happy to facilitate necessary returns and re-adoptions.
