Adoption Tail: Mama Kitty

We scroll past pictures of cute animals every day, but for Amber Lee of Gladwin, a cute photo of one cat caught her eye as she was scrolling on Facebook.

Mama Kitty’s picture had been posted to the Gladwin County Animal Shelter’s Facebook page and as soon as Lee saw her, “something told me I had to go get her,” Lee said.

In 2015 Mama Kitty and her kittens were taken to the shelter and her kittens had all found homes, but she was left behind, waiting to find a home of her own.

When Lee went to the shelter to meet the sweet cat she saw in that post, she was surprised to find out that Mama Kitty’s adoption fee had been paid for.

“I got a bunch of pet food and supplies to donate as a thank you,” Lee said and was happy to take her new furry friend home.

The transition into home life took Mama Kitty a bit of time, Lee said. “She was scared at first. I was told that she had previously been a bard cat, so it took some time to adjust.”

With patience, Mama Kitty started to come around.

“It took about a week,” Lee said, “and now she won’t leave us alone.”

Mama Kitty is not only obsessed with her family, they are obsessed with her.

“She is the best frickin’ cat we have ever had,” Lee said. “She is so smar, friendly, the best hunter and snuggler.”

Every night, Mama Kitty sleeps above Lee’s head on her pillow and she will only drink water out of a running faucet.

“We have to let (the water) run in the sink so she can get a drink,” Lee said, “because she will not use her dish.”

With her quirky personality and protective nature, Lee said that Mama Kitty is truly the best can she’s ever had and that adopting her was such a great experience.

When asked if she would recommend adoption to people in the community, Lee had this to say:

“Absolutely!! It was such and easy process and my pet was already spayed when we got her.”

Lee said that since adopting Mama Kitty was so easy and she is such a great companion, she will definitely be going back to the shelter to adopt in the future.
