Adoption Tail: Salem

2020 was a year full of unexpected changes and unforeseen isolation, for Rebecca Breece of Gladwin, this made her house seem “just a little too quiet.”

In that quiet, Rebecca made the decision that her home was in need of a furry companion.

“(I) always said that when I got another cat that I would adopt,” Said Rebecca. “so that cat could have a second chance at a forever home.”

Rebecca admitted that stepping into the shelter to adopt was a bit nerve wracking.

“I was a bit nervous,” Rebecca said, “I had never adopted a cat before.”

But with the help of shelter staff, Rebecca found her new furry friend, Salem.

Salem went home with Rebecca and adjusted to her new home very well.

“My favorite thing about Salem would have to be that she is there to greet me when I open my bedroom door in the morning,” said Rebecca. “(and she) greets me at the door the second I get home from work.”

While Rebecca is away, or they are just hanging out at home, Salem loves to watch the birds through their living room window and makes the house really feel like a home.

With nerves about adoption in the past, and her house now not as quiet, now filled with the sounds of tiny cat paws and meows, she said that she would highly recommend adoption, “because you are giving a pet a chance at a forever home.”
